What auto companies did to mobility, HDFC did to housing, bringing finance within the reach of all. The first financial institution that found an opportunity in not just disbursing home loans to millions of people who otherwise would not have been able to realise their dream house, but also helping them find, buy and furnish homes. It also offers loans for house repair and other top-up loans. Since its inception in 1977, it has maintained a CAGR of 22 per cent and, at 0.86 per cent of advances in the second quarter, has the lowest NPA level in the industry.
Founded by HT Parekh, the uncle of the present non-executive chairman Deepak Parekh, the institution has market cap of $25.6 billion.
