Dividend-yield funds typically perform well in almost all the cycles of the markets. This fund is recommended for those investors who are looking for stable returns on a consistent basis with a relatively lower risk

 

The fund essentially selects a company whose dividend yield is two times the dividend yield of the benchmark Sensex. Dividend yield is calculated by dividing the annual dividend paid per share by the price of each share. At present, the Sensex is quoting a dividend yield of 1.7%. Hence, the fund selects companies, which quote a dividend yield equal to or more than 3.4%.

It has been observed that medium-and-small sized companies quote a high dividend yield in the range of 3-5% in comparison with large sized companies, whose share prices are volatile. Hence, the fund concentrates on companies in the mid and small-size categories. At present, the fund is focused on mid-sized PSU banks, fertilisers, oil & gas and select companies in the automobile and consumer sectors. The fund has consistently beaten its benchmark S &P CNX 500 in the last five years.
